At the beginning of the play “Sense and Sensibility,” based on the Jane Austen novel, the Dashwood family are forced out of their home and have to live with relatives or be homeless.
Warsaw Community High School Select Theatre class is presenting the play this weekend, with all proceeds going to Fellowship Missions.
The play is at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday in the WCHS black box theater. Tickets are $6.
Fellowship Missions is a not-for-profit Christian-based homeless shelter, founded by Eric and Tammy Lane in April 2010, according to its website at fellowshipmissions.net.
“Our purpose is to meet the needs of the homeless through sharing the love and hope of Jesus Christ. It is our heart’s desire to assist these hurting people with a safe and loving place to stay while they are going through difficult times. We hope that with our resources and combined efforts with our community, it will allow them to achieve a better way of life for themselves and their families,” the Fellowship Missions website states.
The play was written by Kate Hamill. According to www.dramatists.com, it is a “playful new adaptation of Jane Austen’s beloved novel” following the fortunes and misfortunes of the Dashwood sisters.
It is set in gossipy late 18th century England, “with a fresh female voice, the play is full of humor, emotional depth, and bold theatricality,” the website states. “‘Sense and Sensibility’ examines our reactions, both reasonable and ridiculous, to societal pressures.”
The cast, in order of appearance, includes: Emma Tomasik as Gossip 1, servant, Mrs. Ferras and nurse; Abigail Smith as Gossip 2, servant, Anne Steele; Hannah as Gossip 3, servant; Kendall Cox as Bellamy, Gossip 4, Lady Middleton, woman at the ball; Rachael Kuhn as Gossip 5, Margaret Dashwood; Bailey Berelsman as John Dashwood; Sara Hohman as Fanny Dashwood; Aaron Wainscott as Edward Ferras; Gabi Bradley as Elinor Dashwood; Katie Yocum as Marianne Dashwood; Lydia DeBoest as Mrs. Dashwood; Sam Engle as Sir John Middleton; Brooke Neubaum as Mrs. Jennings; Kyle Kuhn as Colonel Brandon; Nate Wilcox as John Willoughby; Rachel Smith as Lucy Steele; and Chase Madsen as Robert Ferras.
