Spartans Remain In National XC Poll

Coach Geoff Lambert’s squad, turning in top-10 finishes at all four meets this season with two championships included, is at No. 9 as the lone Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference school in the poll. Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association members Calvin and Hope Colleges hold down the top two slots with North Coast Athletic Conference schools Allegheny (Penn.), Kenyon (Ohio), Oberlin (Ohio) and DePauw (Indiana) and Ohio Athletic Conference institutions Otterbein, John Carroll and Mount Union filling in the three through 10 spots along with the Black and Gold.
MU returns to action at Oberlin College’s Interregional Rumble Saturday.
SOCCER SQUADS EARN ACADEMIC HONORS
The 2015-16 editions of Manchester University men’s and women’s soccer have each been recognized by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
MU was among 221 schools from across all NCAA divisions, the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics and the NJCAA to have both programs noted as Team Academic honorees. To qualify for the award, the team must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 or higher for the entire academic year.
FOUR NAMED NFCA AWARDEES
The quartet of senior Kaile Niezgodski, junior Taylor Spangle of Leesburg, sophomore Mallorie Jennings and freshman Kate Skeens each earned National Fastpitch Coaches Association Scholar-Athlete awards for the 2015-16 season. The NFCA and Easton made the announcement of its Scholar Team and Athlete accolades Oct. 6.
They were among better than 1,000 NCAA Division III student-athletes recognized. Athletes who achieve a 3.5 or better grade-point average on a 4.0 scale are recognized as Easton/NFCA Scholar Athletes.
