And this weekend they will be at the Warsaw Community High School Performing Arts Center.
WCHS Drama Department is presenting “The Addams Family,” a new musical comedy, at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
Tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for students and senior citizens. Presale tickets are available for reserved seating. Contact the box office at 574-371-5040.
The musical is based upon “The Addams Family” characters created by Charles Addams for his cartoons. While there have been several film versions and a television show, Director Dana McAfee said the musical wasn’t based on any one thing.
“It sort of gives a new insight into some of the classic characters,” McAfee said. “The humor is good for all ages at different times of the show. People who remember the characters from the (television) show will laugh hard. We stay true to the characters, but we add creativity to it.
“This is a strong show. The characters are strong, the set is strong. It’s just a strong show.”
The original cast for the musical “The Addams Family” starred Nathan Lane as Gomez and Bebe Neuwirth as Morticia.
The plot of the show revolves around Wednesday inviting her new — and “normal” — boyfriend, Lucas Beineke, and his parents, Mal and Alice, to dinner. While torturing Pugsley on a rack, Wednesday admits that love is pulling her in a new direction. Meanwhile, Morticia and Gomez worry about her changing ways, and there is a potion that makes a person tell the truth, but the wrong person drinks it. Shenanigans ensue.
“Even if you don’t know the characters, you’ll still love these characters,” McAfee promised, adding that the music is very catchy.
The Wagon Wheel Center for the Arts produced the show for its stage in 2015.
The WCHS Drama Department production has 30 cast members, 12 crew and tech members, and nine orchestra pit members.
