By Staff Report-
“A Christmas Carol” is based on the story by Charles Dickens, and features music written by Alan Menken and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens. Menken is well-known for his work on Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” and “The Little Mermaid,” as well as “Little Shop of Horrors.”
Ahrens is also an acclaimed Broadway heavy hitter, having worked on “Ragtime,” “Suessical” and “Once on This Island,” according to a news release from the Wagon Weel.
Ebenezer Scrooge is a prosperous curmudgeon who believes that personal wealth is far more valuable than the happiness and comfort of others. With an infuriated "Bah! Humbug!"
Scrooge summates his feelings of Christmas tidings and charitable giving, but he's forced to face his selfish ways when three ghosts on Christmas Eve lead him through his past, present and future.
Thanks to their guidance, Scrooge recognizes his faults and greets Christmas morning with a cheerful "Happy Christmas" before spending the day reconnecting and sharing love with those that mean the most to him, the release states.
The weekend performances run Dec. 2-18 on Fridays and Saturdays at 7 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. As with previous holiday shows, school matinees will run on six weekdays from Dec. 6-14, serving groups from area schools.
During November, the Wagon Wheel is running a promotion providing a discount to those who purchase tickets to both “A Christmas Carol” and the Symphony of the Lakes’ Dec. 15 holiday concert, “A Christmas Cabaret.” That concert will take place at Winona Heritage Room in Winona Lake and features Beckie Menzie and Tom Michael, a well-known Chicago cabaret duo.
Those interested in details or tickets should call the box office at 574-267-8041, stop by at 2515 E. Center St., Warsaw, or visit wagonwheelcenter.org.
