Longtime Warsaw resident Beecher Wiggins is celebrating his 90th birthday today. Beecher was born in Lebanon Oct. 25, 1924. His family moved to Warsaw in 1937.
A 1942 Warsaw High School graduate, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, and proudly served his country in the South Pacific during World War II. As a crew member, he was a turret gunner on a TBM avenger aircraft that flew from the USS Hancock. After the war, he returned to Warsaw and married the former Doris Engle in 1948 at the First Presbyterian Church, where they were members for many years.
Throughout his years in Warsaw, he worked in the local post office, as a Yellow Pages salesman for the L.M. Berry Company and as a local contractor. Beecher is best known as the owner of the Village Inn Pizza Parlor and Top of the Inn Restaurant, Warsaw.
In addition to being a local businessman, he served as a Warsaw city councilman during the late 1970s. When not working at his restaurants, he also loved to fly his Cessna and Staggerwing airplanes.  He is a lifetime member of the Staggerwing Club in Tullahoma, Tenn., the Antique Airplanes Association and the USS Hancock Association.
Beecher and Dori have two children, a son, Ernie, and a daughter, Jan. They also have three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He will celebrate his birthday at his Wade Road home with family this weekend. Send cards to 2079 Wade Road, Warsaw. He would love to hear from you.
