Using Google To Find Your Ancestors

Search for one of your ancestor’s names in your Google search bar and see what you come up with.
If you come up with all kinds of search results that do not have anything to do with genealogy you can also add “genealogy” at the end of the name you are searching for and that will narrow your search down to just genealogy related material.
If you are looking for a particular state record but you have a favorite site you use such as Ancestry for your research, in the Google search bar you can also type “ancestry.com Indiana marriages” or whatever you are specifically looking for. That will help you really see what all Ancestry has for marriages in Indiana. Maybe you will find a record you have not come across before. You can also use “site:familysearch.org Indiana marriages.”
In your Google search you can also type in the name of an ancestor and then when results come up you can click on the images results instead of web results. You may find a photo of your ancestor there. If it is an ancestor that is several generations back you may get better results if you also under images click on the search tools and then change it from color to black and white.
Google also has a news page, for that you can type in news.google.com in your web search and with the news search newspapers.  So you can search for an ancestor and see what you come up with. Google has done lots of digitalizing of newspaper records. I recently found this new way of searching for newspaper records and have found some of my missing links on where a particular ancestor was born.
I will also add again that if you or someone you know has some free time on your hands and would be interested in volunteering at the Warsaw Library to help them do lookups they need assistance that could also be on a as-needed basis. Contact Laurie at the Warsaw Library if you are interested in this.
