For Kosciusko County, the tradition of giving started 50 years ago, with a first-year campaign goal of $74,661. So the campaign trail for the United Way of Kosciusko began.

United Way of Kosciusko County became a non-profit organization, to assist agencies with funds and volunteer support so agencies could focus on their mission.

Founding community members came together, voted and allocated raised dollars to agencies based on what the need of the community was. Agencies filled human-need gaps, with the services they offered for residents who needed them.

This culmination of United Way services provided security for those who could not afford or access other means.

Many volunteer community leaders have actively participated in the United Way Campaigns since 1958.

In the late 1970s Larry Castaldi organized and became the first president of United Way of Indiana.

This brought together all county United Funds or Community Chests for the good of all non-profit agencies in Indiana. In his name, the Castaldi Award is given to the state's most outstanding volunteer.

Currently, in Kosciusko County, volunteers make up the 19-person board of directors, 28 person vision council, eight-person community impact committee, six-person finance committee and four-person organizational development committee. The campaign side has an 18-member campaign cabinet led by Campaign Chairman Steve Corbett from DePuy.[[In-content Ad]]
