Thanksgiving Traditions

As the Thanksgiving holiday is approaching us and family gathers for the Thanksgiving meal we think about those family traditions. What family traditions does your family do every year for the holiday? Are these traditions ones that have been passed down from generation to generation. Take time to reflect on these traditions so you can pass them on for generations to come. As you sit and visit with family for thanksgiving have people share what family traditions they have that have been passed down to their generation. As you finish eating did a family member bring a dish that you would want the recipe for or you could make a family recipe book with the favorite dishes that have been made for the Thanksgiving meal.
If you have those sports fanatics in the family I am sure that after the meal as people are sitting down to relax after stuffing their faces with food a football game is being watched on the television. I know that is something that most always happened in my family. The guys had to watch the football games.
Of course one of my all-time favorite things to do while the food is being prepared is to have the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade on television. It's exciting to see what kind of floats are created. Looking at some of the floats throughout the years it is amazing to see and think about how many hours and how much supplies it took to create those floats.
But you can also take advantage of the special family time you have together and go through old family photo albums. It may be fun to set up a video camera in the corner and record all the great conversations of the day's activities. Those videos created would be great to share to the future generations.
It can be a great opportunity for you as the genealogist to share what research you have found so far to the family. Maybe you can get lucky and have family members fill in some blank spots.
