Meinert, Other Producers Honored by Maple Leaf Farms

MILFORD - At its annual producer meeting, Maple Leaf Farms honored Al Meinert for his 50-year relationship with the company. Meinert was one of the first contract producers to start raising ducks for the company when it was founded by Donald Wentzel in 1958. Meinert has continued his association with the company for 50 years and will be retiring later this year.

Maple Leaf Farms also recognized other producers at the meeting. The company honored three producers with its 2007 stewardship awards, which recognize producers for outstanding efforts in animal well-being, biosecurity and environmental management. Recipients of this award were BNL Farms operated by Wayne Dye of Clunette; C & R Farms operated by Keith Burger, Larry Eisenhour, and Rex Eisenhour of Syracuse; and David Fry of Topeka.

Performance awards for 2007 were given to BNL East, BNL North and BNL West operated by Wayne Dye of Clunette; Backwoods Farm operated by Devon Bontrager of Middlebury; Merle Farmwald of Nappanee; Larry Haney of Milford; and Maple Lane Farm operated by Wilbur Miller of Goshen.
