The Syracuse-Wawasee Historical Museum and Syracuse Public Library are putting on a joint program this spring titled “Discover the Syracuse Cemetery.”
The two-part program will help participants get to know the local cemetery better.
The first part begins April 24 at 11 a.m. with a kick-off lecture on cemetery symbols by Indiana Historical Society speaker Jeannie Regan-Dinius. The lecture will take place in the Syracuse Public Library’s meeting room.
The second part is the exploration of the cemetery. After the lecture, all participants will be given a newly-developed Syracuse Cemetery brochure which can be used to take a self-guided tour of the cemetery. The brochure includes information about and locations of significant gravesites, a history of the cemetery association, and instructions and materials for completing a gravestone rubbing.
In addition, the brochure includes a Syracuse Cemetery “Seek and Find” page, which can be completed and presented at the Syracuse Public Library or Syracuse-Wawasee Historical Museum for a prize and raffle entry. Return it to the library or museum by May 13.
The “Discover the Syracuse Cemetery” Program is free and open to all.
For more information call Becky Brower at 574-457-3022 or Karen Kelsheimer at 574-457-3599.
