Most of the time, a county or even city in each state will have a Facebook page and this can lead you to new hints for your research. I have created a Facebook page that is private for just my family reunion, and have invited to the site those who should know information about the reunion. This is a place where we can plan the reunion better.
A couple of years ago, I created a Facebook page for the area in Kentucky my grandmother is from to try to find people with connections to area families. I wanted them to help me identify old photos that I have inherited from my grandmother’s side of the family. I didn’t know when I started this page that I would have so many people want to join the site. It has boomed, and now I have over 450 members all with connections to the area. We have helped each other in our research and have over 700 photos that have been added the site to share with others.
Pinterest is a good source of resources but it doesn’t necessarily lead you to new hints. But, it could help give you tips on how to organize your family tree and preserve and organize photographs and family heirlooms and dating old photos, which could help in identifying them. Hairstyles through history is a link from Pinterest that I have used in helping me date my photos. You can find links to new resources, links to charts that can be downloaded and printed, links to free online classes that you can take to help you discover your family. There are links to websites for genealogy research and ideas on books to read that might help you in your research.
