Didage Sales Co. Inc. recently started a philanthropic division, which accepts surplus medical equipment from hospitals and surgery centers and facilitates getting them into the hands of those who work or volunteer at non-profit agencies, both domestically and abroad.

These items are available for a college medical practicum, emergency relief work, non-profit clinics, shelters, and for use in

underprivileged countries.

On Sept. 11, Dr. Marvin Eastlund of Dupont Hospital in Fort Wayne, and on behalf of the Latin American Mission Board, visited Didage Sales Co. Inc. and purchased items for use on his trip to Ecuador in October.

He also accepted several donated medical supplies for the medical facility located just outside of the underprivileged town of San Lorenzo.

Dr. Jane Weaver, a Fort Wayne surgeon, runs the Ecuador facility throughout the year. She returns to Fort Wayne for a few weeks each year to cover for the staff at her hometown hospital.

She uses her earnings to help fund the Ecuador mission.

Eastlund travels to Ecuador each year to volunteer as a surgeon, along side of Weaver.

The conditions of the surgical facility are not ideal. At times they lose power during a surgical procedure, and use a flashlight and a diesel generator to finish the surgery. Nearly everything is reused, right down to the wrappers of the disposable products, explained Eastlund during his visit.

According to the Web site, w w w .l a m b o n l i n e .o r g because of its proximity to Colombia, San Lorenzo can sometimes be a dangerous place to work and live.

Angie Tom, director of marketing at Didage Sales Co., said "It is a privilege to be able to work with Dr. Eastlund in getting these items to the surgery center in Ecuador. I am grateful for the surgical facilities that donated items, to Chris and Julie Rankin who have allowed me to start this program, and for people like Dr.

Eastlund and Dr. Weaver who are making personal

sacrifices to make the world a better place."

So far, Didage Sales has products going to Ecuador, Bangladesh, and the Dominican Republic.
