If you don’t keep the family legacy alive, how will future generations know about their family?
There are many things that can be created with a family’s history and family photos. You can start collecting recipes from the different family members and create a family cookbook that you can sell at reunion and raise some money for future reunions. Seeing if someone in the family has old family recipes really adds history to the cookbook. There are many ways that these cookbooks can be created and you can create them the way you want. While talking to your family members try to get them talking about stories about the family.
Discuss their years growing up, the different houses they lived in, where their parents were from and life in their era. Adding some of these stories of ancestors growing up along with some pictures of family members, can really add a lot to it. Generations can appreciate the work and effort put into this cookbook.
You can always create scrapbooks of the different families. You can add photos, stories and genealogical information. Any way you can create something for the future generations to know more about their family legacy is key. We need to preserve what we have because if we don’t, how will the future generations learn about their heritage?
For those ancestors who have passed away and you have collected memorabilia from their life, you may want to consider creating a shadow box, which could hold their picture, documents of their life, medals they have earned, their Bible or anything that represents their life. These shadow boxes are something good to display at family reunions.
Something else that I have seen at my husband’s family reunions are memorial tables. On these tables are pictures of those in the family that have passed on. This is one way to show you are trying to keep their memory alive.[[In-content Ad]]
