Breaking a Brick Wall in Research

Well as those winter months approach and it limits our access to get away to travel to different libraries and historical societies to research our family tree by looking through newspapers to see if we can break a common brick wall. Most of the actual newspapers have a website that you might be able to get into their archives and search for an article.
There are several websites out there where you can look at old newspapers. Most of them are searchable to particular states, counties, names of people or event and usually you can do a date range for this particular article you are looking for to help narrow down your search if you don’t know the date that it was in the newspaper.
Some of the sites that you can look at the newspapers are: www.newspapers.com is one that has been mentioned several times in the last little while on some of the genealogy message boards and also was mentioned at the Warsaw Library genealogy club today. This is something that you have to pay a fee to use but it does come with a free trial. It is interesting when you look at old newspapers to see the things that were mentioned in the paper back in the day. Another website that was brought to my attention for researching old newspapers is www.chroniclingamerica.loc.gov which is a work in progress as a lot of websites, historical societies and libraries are in the process of making a lot of there material and records digital so that more people have access to them. Some places are trying to get all the microfilm digitalized and online to make it easier to access the records from wherever you are.[[In-content Ad]]
