Alderfer Bergen & Co. recently announced that partner Michael S. Bergen passed level one of the CFA exam on his way to earning the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.

The CFA program is a practice-based, graduate-level program that combines a broad curriculum with professional conduct requirements and emphasizes the highest ethical and professional standards.

Charterholders must demonstrate a mastery of essential finance, investment and analysis knowledge by learning the rigorous curriculum, passing a series of three six-hour examinations over at least two years, and complete a minimum of 750 hours of study.

The designation covers investment analysis, portfolio management, financial statement analysis, corporate I finance, economics, performance measurement, and professional ethics. Only 35 percent of candidates seeking the designation passed the level one exam in 2008.
