Irma ‘Sally’ Lee Walter

BOURBON – Irma “Sally” Lee Walter, 95, of Tippecanoe, passed away Sunday, June 22, 2025, in Grace Village Retirement Community of Winona Lake.
Irma was born on July 23, 1929, to Omar John and Ethel Leah Stetson DeWitt in Hammond. She graduated from Griffith High School in 1948 and attended Ivy Tech. She married Harold E. Walter on Nov. 6, 1949, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 27, 2012. She was a homemaker but also worked at various stores such as the hardware store and Denny’s Grocery. She was a member of Etna Green Church of Christ, the Red Hats Society, Lydia’s Ladies of Etna Green Church of Christ, she was also volunteer EMT for Bourbon EMS, a church secretary, janitor and Sunday school teacher. She enjoyed sewing, crafts and playing cards, especially euchre.
Irma is survived by her children: Terry Heckaman, of Lansing, Mich.; Michael Walter, of Tippecanoe; Richard and Sandy Walter, of Tippecanoe; Ronald and Twila Walter, of Monroeville; Rebecca and Bruce Woodward, of Warsaw; and Christine Jack and Michael Splix, of Plymouth; her 15 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Irma was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Walter; her daughters, Lynnette Walter; and Barbara Heckaman; her grandchildren: Noah Andrew, Matthew William and Leah Christine Jack; her daughter-in-law, Diane Walter; her sisters: Beverly McCarter, Patricia Dixon, Phyllis VanVelck; her brothers, Richard DeWitt and Donald DeWitt.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, June 29 from 3 to 6 p.m. at Etna Green Church of Christ, 206 W. Broadway St., Etna Green.
A funeral service will follow at 6 p.m. with Pastor Jordan Ickes and the Walter family officiating.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, June 30 at 11 a.m. at Etna Green Cemetery, 10305 W. CR 300 N. [High Street], Etna Green.
Memorial donations may be made in Irma’s honor to Etna Green Church of Christ, 206 W. Broadway St., Etna Green, IN 46524.
