A much-loved husband, father, grandfather, son, Brother and proud Michigan State Spartan, Dan L. Osbeck, 77, of Hilton Head Island, S.C., passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home on June 20, 2025.
Born March 31, 1948, in Grand Rapids, Mich., to father Gordon and mother Betty Faber Osbeck. He grew up in Michigan and after high school played golf at Wheaton College in Illinois before transferring to Michigan State University to pursue a degree in package engineering.
Upon graduating from Michigan State, he enlisted and served in the Army V Corps Artillery Unit from 1971 to 1974 where he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service. Following his return from the Army, he purchased a motorcycle and journeyed cross-country with his long-time college friend.
When he returned from seeing the sites within the United States, he was hired by Zimmer and moved to Chapman Lake in Warsaw. Dan spent his entire professional career with Zimmer, starting as a packaging engineer and retiring as vice president, global operations. Beyond his working life, Dan was an avid golfer, fisherman, hunter and craftsman. After retiring from Zimmer, Dan and wife Judy relocated to Hilton Head Island, S.C., where Dan spent another 15 years volunteering as a marshal at the RBC Heritage PGA Golf Tournament.
Dan is survived by wife of 47 years, Judy; son, Christopher and wife Rachel, of Jacksonville, Fla.; son, Matthew and wife Cassandra, of Carmel; grandchildren: Emerson, Brayden, Kenley and Lylah. He is also survived by his siblings: David, Nancy and Tom.
Memorial service was held in Hilton Head Island, S.C., on Friday, June 27 at 4 p.m. with a reception to follow until 6 p.m. at The Island Funeral Home, located at 4 Cardinal Road, Hilton Head Island, S.C. A Celebration of Life will be scheduled in Warsaw at a future date in late summer/early fall.
