Merl Leon Shank, 77, of rural Claypool, died at 8:43 a.m. Monday, May 12, 2025, at Lutheran Kosciusko Hospital in Warsaw.  
He was born on April 5, 1948, in Rochester, to Garl and Virginia M. Spurgeon Shank.
Merl received a certificate in welding from the Heartland Career Center before serving in the U.S. Air Force. He worked for Par-Kan and also Wabash Valley Manufacturing, both in Silver Lake. Merl was a member of a car club in Rochester. He enjoyed fishing and lake life.
He is survived by his sister, Donna Swihart, of Wabash; nieces and nephew: Cheryl Sherman, of Wabash; Jama Oldsen, of Columbia City; Debra (Chris) Moore, of Akron; Mark Shank, of Warsaw; and Laura (Ryan) Riggle, of Warsaw. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Charles E. "Chuck" Shank and Gerald D. "Bud" Shank; and niece, Cindy Kennedy.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 17 at Grandstaff-Hentgen Roann Chapel, 335 S. Chippewa Road, Roann, with Pastor Robb Rensberger officiating. Burial will be in Roann Community Cemetery, Roann. Friends may call 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
