BURKET – Burket Town Council approved when the townwide garage sale will be this year during Thursday’s meeting.
Councilwoman Debra Deniston asked what the plans were for the sale this year.
Council President Bill Rayburn said traditionally, what they like to do is hold the sale the same Friday and Saturday as Mentone’s Egg Festival.
According to the Mentone Chamber of Commerce website, the Egg Festival this year will be June 5-7. The council approved having the garage sale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 6-7.
Clerk-Treasurer Katina Webb said she is in the middle of working on a spring/summer newsletter, so she could put information about the garage sale in there.
In other business, the council:
• Learned a property discussed at February’s meeting that had several cars parked there has reduced the number of cars at its property.
Rayburn said he did see one car at the property being repaired. He said he’ll try to talk to the property owners.
• Learned Rayburn talked to Street Superintendent Brad Bibler to look into missing street signs in town.
Rayburn sent Bibler a list of where the signs should be. There’s one sign on Tucker Street that needs to be replaced while another sign and pole across the street hasn’t been there for a while.
The town has one stop sign in inventory, so Rayburn said more will have to be ordered. He said he believes more signs in town are missing, including on Railroad Street and two on West Street.
Rayburn said he’d get with Bibler to work things out with the signs.
• Heard from Webb she believes the 2025 budget was accepted by the state.
