March 13, 2025 at 5:06 p.m.

A fourth person - A. Renee Wilson - has announced their intention to seek the Kosciusko County Council District 2 seat.
The seat became vacant following the death of Mike Long, who died Feb. 27. Long served on the council since 2018, with his term expiring at the end of 2026.
Wilson’s career started after graduating from Indiana University with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice in 2014. She has spent the last decade working in public service as a social worker, specializing in working sex abuse cases. Wilson has also worked as a forensic interviewer for sexual assault survivors for the state of Indiana, and as a probation/parole agent in Kosciusko County and in Racine County, Wis.
Wilson is set to graduate with a master’s degree in criminal justice later this year.
During her time in Wisconsin, she was a volunteer as a victim advocate for BeLeaf Survivors from 2019-2022.
Wilson and her family relocated back to Kosciusko County in September 2022, where she served the public as an adult probation officer for over two years.
“I believe with my experiences, I have gained knowledge by knowing the citizens from all demographics that make up Kosciusko County,” said Wilson. “This in turn would make me a well-rounded member of the Kosciusko County Council.”
The three other Republicans who also announced their candidacy for Long’s seat include Mason Charlton, Joe Irwin and Michael Schafer.
A Republican caucus to fill the seat will take place at 6 p.m. March 19 in the old courtroom of the county courthouse in Warsaw. Eligible members of the caucus are Republican precinct committee members who have served continuously for 30 days before the commencement of the caucus.
The council members will be elected by a secret ballot of the majority of the voting caucus members to fill the office vacancy.
Candidates must reside in Kosciusko County and be a Republican in good standing. Declarations of candidacy are available at the office of the Kosciusko County Clerk of the Circuit Court, 121 N. Lake St., Warsaw. Declarations must be filed with Republican Central Committee Chairman Mike Ragan no later than 72 hours before the commencement of the caucus.
Eligible candidates will be allowed a maximum of three minutes to address the voting caucus.
