Yakym’s Hate Rhetoric

Editor, Times-Union:
Rudy Yakym’s recent letter to Secretary Mayorkas about migrants in Logansport is yet another clear example that he has nothing to offer his constituents but darkness and division. He has no record of accomplishments to talk about, so, like Trump, he has to try to scare people into voting for him. Logansport isn’t even in Yakym’s congressional district.
I’m sure Yakym would rather be talking about how he’s helped farmers by passing a farm bill, but he failed to do so. He would probably prefer to be talking about passing bills for childcare and universal pre-K education, but he failed to do so. He probably wishes he could brag about providing $400 billion in funding for over 40,000 projects across 4,500 communities. Sorry, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris did that.
Yakym’s increasingly hateful rhetoric toward the most vulnerable people in our society, people who have come here seeking refuge from harm and a better life for their children, is disgraceful. It is contrary to the teachings of Jesus who would have us love our neighbors as ourselves. Yakym, no doubt a devout Christian, chooses to ignore the Gospel of Matthew that says “anything you did even for the least of my people here, you also did for me.”
Rudy Yakym is endangering lives with his hate speech. Please don’t reward his divisive behavior with your vote. Lori Camp is the clear choice for Congress. Lori has pledged to be a voice for, and to work for everyone. Lori supports the bipartisan border security bill that Yakym voted against. She will work tirelessly for her constituents in the 2nd Congressional District.
