SOUTH WHITLEY – As of Tuesday night's meeting, the buildings at 206 and 208 S. State St. have been sold to Brian McCarty, a Fort Wayne business owner who is interested in developing the buildings into apartments and retail space.
South Whitley Town Council member Brock Waterson provided the purchase agreement to town attorney Greg Hockemeyer. Waterson clarified that the adjacent building, formerly housing the family room of the Green Parrot Bar and Grill, does not belong to the town and is not part of this contract.
Council heard from Dale Buuck, president of the Whitley County Economic Development Corporation (EDC), regarding developments in rural wireless internet. Buuck said a feasibility study is being conducted with several towers to determine the success of this new, high-speed internet option, Tarana Wireless, especially in rural Whitley County.
Whitley County EDC is working closely with Lakeland Internet LLC of Angola on this project.
Council discussed the delays in trash pickup. Clerk-Treasurer Alyssa Knepple said the town is aware there have been issues with trash pickup. If residents' trash is not picked up on time, they should leave it on the curb and call the clerk's office to let them know, and a Borden employee will be informed.
Council approved dates for 2025 regular meetings. Meetings will remain at 6:30 p.m. every second and fourth Tuesday of the month.
Council will next meet at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 10.
