David Lavon McFarren, 88, New Paris, died 12:57 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2024, at his home.
He was born July 27, 1936, in Syracuse, to Rado Clay and E. Marie Hentzell McFarren. On Sept. 22, 1954, he married Marjolaine Mishler McFarren, and she died May 1, 1968. On Jan. 5, 1991, he married Sally K. Martin McFarren, and she died Oct. 16, 2018.
Surviving are his children, Tina L. (Henry) Baum, Trinity, Fla.; Bonnie L. (David) McIntosh, Colorado Springs, Colo.; David E. (Angela) McFarren, New Paris; four grandchildren: Antoinette (Lucas) Smith, Farren (Colton) Laptad, Alaister (Grace) McFarren and Sheena McFarren; and three great-grandchildren: Josephine, Eliza and Joseph.
Preceding him in death are his parents, wives, Marjolaine and Sally; and siblings: Glendora Davis, Virginia Kramer, Mildred Craig and Wanetta McFarren.
David was a factory maintenance engineer for Barler Metal for 10 years and CTB for 39 years. He held a patent for a bulk bin delivery and metering apparatus for CTB. David also owned and operated New Paris Dive Shop. He was a member of New Paris Church of the Brethren, a former Cub master for New Paris Troop 12 and member of Jaycees. David could build and repair just about anything and used those skills to help others. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and acts of service.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15 and one hour prior to the 11 a.m. funeral service on Saturday, Nov. 16, all at New Paris Church of the Brethren, 68170 CR 23, New Paris. Flowers should be delivered to Rieth Rohrer Ehret Funeral Home, Goshen. Pastor Len Smith will officiate, and burial will follow at New Paris Cemetery.
