Glenda Woodcox, professionally known as Rev. Glenda Woodcox or as Pastor G, passed away on Sept. 15, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of more than 40 years of service as a United Methodist minister.
Glenda was born on March 25, 1944, in Maryland to parents Harry Taylor Johnson and Helen Rowena Brashire Johnson.
Having obtained her education from Northwestern Theological Seminary and later from Goshen College, Glenda embarked on a remarkable career in the ministry. Throughout her life, she served in various communities, touching the lives of countless individuals with her unwavering dedication and compassion.
Glenda had a strong and independent nature, matched with a good sense of humor. She approached life with a positive outlook and had a unique ability to find joy in most situations. When she wasn't devoting herself to her pastoral duties, Glenda found solace in spending time with family. She loved having them around and cherished every moment spent together.
One of her favorite pastimes was playing Solitaire and or Mahjong. Additionally, Glenda will be remembered for her talent in scrapbooking and crafting — activities that allowed her to express her creativity and create meaningful memories. Western movies held a special place in Glenda's heart; she enjoyed immersing herself in the tales of cowboys and pioneers, finding entertainment in the stories portrayed on the screen. She was also a lover of animals.
Glenda's passing leaves a void felt deeply by those closest to her. Glenda is survived by her daughter, Janie (Gaynell Smythe) Woodcox, of Warsaw; and her son, Thom Woodcox, of Fort Wayne. Glenda also leaves behind two grandsons, Michael Woodcox, of Warsaw; and Jordan (Stacia) Woodcox, of Wabash. She was preceded in passing by her parents; two sons, Brian and Kenny Woodcox; and brother, Bill Johnson.
One person who shared a unique friendship with Glenda was Martha Kreigh, of Warsaw. They were best friends for many years, sharing laughter, tears and creating lasting memories. Martha will always cherish the moments they spent together and hold Glenda dear in her heart.
Glenda Woodcox touched the lives of so many people throughout her lifetime. Her commitment to serving others and spreading love and understanding set an exemplary standard for all who witnessed her dedication. She leaves behind cherished memories that will forever be held close by those fortunate enough to have known her.
As a way to bid farewell to Glenda, a Life Celebration dinner will be held at Tippe River Downs Community Building, 2663 Tippe Downs Drive, Warsaw, on Oct. 1 from 4 to 7 p.m. A graveside service will be held at Glenwood Cemetery, Roanoke, on Oct. 2 at 11 a.m. Titus Funeral Home of Warsaw is entrusted with Glenda's care.
Memorial gifts may be given to Stillwater Hospice, 5910 Homestead Road, Ft Wayne, IN 46814 who compassionately cared for Glenda in her final days.
