Webster Signs Contract To Sell Accident Reports

The money will go to the police continuing education fund.
Holt's gathers all of the accident reports and can sell them to places such as insurance companies, Car Facts and basically anyone who wants to purchase them. Church said if the town doesn't sign the contract, the reports still will be sold, but the town won't get any of the funds. Church said the sheriff's department already is using the system.
The council also approved Church's proposal to buy four digital cameras for approximately $540. The cameras are needed for each squad car to be available at accident and crime scenes.
"It is not feasible to use the old cameras," Church said. "And while the new cameras are not as inexpensive as we could go, they are adequate for what we need them for."
Public Works Superintendent Jeremy Sponseller said his department is working hard to clean the town up and keep it looking decent, especially the alleys.
Sponseller has sent in the paperwork to NIPSCO regarding a new street light for Hickory Street and is waiting to be contacted to move forward with it.
Council President Jon Sroufe addressed the three- to four-month problem with recycling bins. Lance's Newmarket originally had the recycling bins in their parking lot, but they were moved to the community center for a time while Lance's was repaving. However, Lance's does not want the recycling bins back.
"Everybody wants to endorse recycling, but nobody wants it in their backyard," Sroufe said. "People really like to have the recycling center in the middle of town."
Sroufe said that the recycling site is looking "pretty good 90 percent of the time." The council addressed the need for fencing and stone around the recycling site. The issue will be brought up again next month, and Sponseller will have cost figures concerning the project.
Sponseller also is working on putting paving proposals together, but hasn't decided which streets have the greatest need. Sponseller said he would like to see the paving done this year and that it would have to be done before it gets cold. He will have more information on paving at the next meeting.
The council approved a codification supplement to the town's ordinance book, which includes all of the changes and ordinances that have been passed since the last supplement.
The council set a date for Aug. 7 at the city hall to meet and discuss the budget.[[In-content Ad]]
