A trio from Kosciusko County placed third in the Senior Vocal division of the Indiana State Fair Talent Show Aug. 9.

Sisters Rachel and Michaela Hawley, Akron, and their cousin, Anna Klatt, Warsaw, won the County Fair Senior Talent Competition, qualifying them to sing at the state fair.

Eleven teams competed in the senior vocal division of the show. The age span was 13-21 years old, and many of the performers included costumes in their acts.

Klatt, 20, said the girls didn't expect to earn a top spot in the state show. "The competition was really steep," she said. "There were a lot of really good people. We had strong vocals, but the other groups were a lot more flashy."

The trio performed "Out of His Great Love" by The Martins.

"Probably, the best thing was just performing," said Rachel Hawley, 17. "It was just a lot of fun to get the reaction of the crowd. When we heard them call out third place and heard our names, we thought, 'Wow! This is awesome!'."

Michaela Hawley, 14, said she and her sister have performed three other times at the state fair, but never placed high in the competition. "This was the best year," she said. "It was pretty awesome."

Klatt said she plans to sing with her cousins again. "We're already scheduled to sing at my church," she said. "And, my aunt has plans for next year's county fair."[[In-content Ad]]
