He was born May 26, 1926, in Nappanee, to Harold and Iva Mikel Klotz. On Jan. 11, 1949, in Nappanee, he married M. June Lemler, who survives. They celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary in January.
A lifelong resident of Nappanee, he was a faithful believer in Jesus Christ and modeled his faith in God to his family and friends. He loved to farm and spent many years farming their land south of Nappanee. For 25 years, he worked at Excel Corporation, Elkhart, and for 10 years at Fairmont Homes, Nappanee. He attended First Church of God, Nappanee, where he served in leadership for many years.
He enjoyed playing and coaching church softball, fishing and camping. He was an avid sports fan and a member of the Fox Hunters Club. He had a wonderful sense of humor, enjoyed telling stories and reminiscing about childhood memories. Most importantly, he loved his family and cherished the times with his grandchildren. The family has been truly blessed with many wonderful friends and neighbors.
Also surviving are five daughters: Diane (and spouse Larry) Cale, Nappanee; Carol (and spouse Gary) Kinsey and Janet (and spouse Tom) Shaver, all of Logansport; Elaine (and spouse Greg) Crump, South Bend; and Pam (and spouse Chad) Roe, St. Marys, Ga.; three sons, Steve (and spouse Cherri) Klotz, Wakarusa, and Jim (and spouse Donna) Klotz and Jerry (and spouse Pam) Klotz, all of Nappanee; 13 grandchildren and four step-grandchildren: Donna (and spouse Scott) Bryant; Jeff (and spouse Carrie) Cale; Michael (and spouse Cristina) Klotz; Kelly (and spouse Adam) Ottinger; Drew Shaver; Danielle (and spouse Nata) Fontan; Mike Crump; Stacy Klotz; Hayden Klotz; Trevor Klotz; Riley Roe; Hannah Klotz; Evan Roe; Stephanie (and spouse Jerry) Cripe; Kevin Kinsey; Bob (and spouse Autumn) Kinsey; and Beth Kinsey; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marjorie (and spouse Harold) Berkey, Goshen, and Mary Lou Dougherty, Nappanee; sister-in-law, Eileen Niehaus, Warsaw; three brothers-in-law, Richard Lemler, Chester (and spouse JoAnna) Lemler and Lowell “Butch” (and spouse Nancy) Lemler, all of Tippecanoe. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Thelma Klotz; a brother, Carl Klotz; brother and sister-in-law, Harold Jr. and Dorothy Klotz; and a brother-in-law, Paul Dougherty.
A celebration of life will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Church of God, 72036 CR 7, Nappanee, with Pastor Sam Bennett officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Nappanee.
Calling is from 1 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
