Dixie Days is scheduled for July 26-28. It will once again feature area garage sales, vendors, a 5K run and car show.
The town council waived a vendor fee of $50 for the event and also approved the closing of North Harrison Street.
A request by Midlakes Mobile Home Court owners Steve and Marilyn Parrot to waive re-connection fees for sewers was tabled by the council Thursday night.
The Parrots recently took the mobile home park back over after four years. They had previously owned the property for 20 years then sold it on contract. After the previous owners defaulted, the Parrots took it back.
The mobile home park has 50 total lots but 23 are empty.
The Parrots have paid back taxes on the property as well as $19,000 in past due sewer bills.
The Parrots were looking to disconnect a number of the properties from the sewer line.
They ran into a snag Thursday night however since North Webster has an ordinance requiring a $500 fee to reconnect to the sewer.
Marilyn Parrot said she couldn’t predict exactly how many lots they’d eventually want to reconnect and didn’t want to pay $500 each time.
Board members Jon Sroufe and Tim Hine said the spirit of the ordinance was to prevent people who lived in North Webster for part of the year from disconnecting then reconnecting their sewer every year.
Town attorney Jack Birch said they would have to amend the ordinance to accommodate the mobile home park but that couldn’t be done until the town’s April meeting.
“If they’re going to try and fix this up then I don’t think we should charge them anything,” said Hine.
The town council’s next meeting is April 17. They meet at 6 p.m. at the North Webster Community Center.
The town agreed to purchase a used sewer jetter from Brown Equipment for $14,000.
The jetter requires some minor repairs but as Sroufe noted, the town had been looking at a new one that would be in the range of $56,000-plus.
The used jetter is from Winona Lake, which just purchased a new one.
North Webster is replacing one that is from the late 1970s. The used jetter is 14 years old.
Since the jetter will be used in storm drainage, the money to purchase it can be taken from the town’s wastewater fund.
Council also accepted Shawn Kitson’s bid of $1,500 for a used police vehicle that was damaged in an accident in October.[[In-content Ad]]
