I read your editorial on meth with interest. I don't know whether to start from the beginning or the end. Meth came about more or less through the suppression of marijuana which was far less dangerous than meth. Let me remind everybody that more people die every year from over-the-counter drugs and those over-medicated by doctors than so-called illegal drugs could ever do.

The drug cartels are simply a result of the war on drugs. Taxpayers have been fleeced for billions chasing the illusion that you can stop people from using drugs. Those billions have been the direct result of spreading corruption throughout our legal system. Because of the drug war they build more prisons, more courtrooms, hire more cops, and raise up another army of attorneys.

I have never advocated the use of drugs but the public would be far better off if they legalized marijuana and probably cocaine. If that had been done years ago there wouldn't be any meth today.

During the first part of the last century anyone could go into a drugstore and purchase drugs for pennies that are outlawed today. Then came the do gooders and the pharma corporations. They have made billions if not trillions turning the middle class especially into drug addicts.

Portugal in the last few years has legalized drugs. Their crime rate has dropped by large percentage points. Even their addiction problems have dropped. Presto - narco gangs are gone.

The reason they're not doing anything to clean up the border and the narco gangs is simple. Follow the money. There is corruption at all levels of government both in Mexico and the U.S. They like the easy money by looking the other way. The other reason is hundreds and hundreds of trucks cross the border every day carrying food and merchandise that could be raised and manufactured here.

The fatcats behind that easy money are not about to act against their own greedy interests. So as long as it's mostly on the other side of the border it's business as usual.

Maybe people should ask themselves why do people want to take drugs or drink too much? Could it be because after the bankers stole all their future they begin to see no hope and resort to drugs and alcohol?

So step one is to investigate and punish big pharma for being the biggest drug pusher around. Ask yourself which one of those drugs you take has cured you? It may make you feel better but name me one pharma pill that is cured anybody.

The other is legalize marijuana and cocaine and you won't need all those prisons. And you would find your taxes going way way down.
