The suspect in multiple armed robberies in Elkhart and Warsaw in recent weeks is in custody as of Tuesday in Elkhart County.
Johnathan Michael Evan, 31, of 723 Blaine Ave., Elkhart, was arrested Tuesday after allegedly committing robberies in the Elkhart area earlier in the day. He faces felony charges in Kosciusko County for robbery resulting in bodily injury; unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon; intimidation; and theft, all from a June 18 incident, according to court records filed Wednesday.
The Warsaw robbery Evans was allegedly involved in occurred at Low Bob’s Discount Tobacco June 18. A clerk was allegedly held at gunpoint around 3 p.m. by a man he described as a black male, approximately 25 years old and 6 feet tall.
According to police, the man approached the counter after looking around the store and asked the clerk for cigarettes. As the clerk turned back around to give the man his cigarettes, he pointed the gun at the clerk and demanded that the cash register be opened. The clerk could not get the register open, so the suspect came around the counter and eventually the drawer was opened.
The suspect grabbed most of the cash in the drawer and told the clerk to get on the ground. The suspect then fled with an undisclosed amount of cash in an unknown direction.
The clerk was not injured in the robbery and called 911.[[In-content Ad]]
