Ring Returned
Editor, Times-Union:To a very special person - My son and I would like to thank you because we never had the chance to. You are the person that found and returned a ring you found in the restroom of Marsh Supermarket. I don't think I could ever thank you enough for being so nice and so honest. I don't know who you are, but I know God does, and my friend, you will be blessed for your good deeds. There aren't many people that would have done what you did. That's what makes you so special to me. You made my son so happy, you just can't begin to know how thankful we are. God bless you and I know you will have the best New Year. Thank you.

Impeachment
Editor, Times-Union:The House of Representatives has fulfilled its constitutional duties by bringing Articles of Impeachment against William Clinton. Now we shall witness how the U.S. Senate handles its mandated responsibilities. Will it provide a trial of the president? Or will we see them do the "Capitol Hill Shuffle" and simply offer out only a censure?
Pundits claim there is not sufficient votes to find Clinton guilty of his felonious acts. How do we really know that? Is it unreasonable to assume that the full Senate, being given all the facts, would find him guilty? Please remember, there is sufficient information pointing out all the facts of this case have not been presented to the public!
Clinton supporters say that the majority of the American people want only a censure. Who are those people? Polls done throughout the mid-west and the south consistently show the majority of voters want President Clinton to come forth before the Senate, give truthful testimony without all his famous devious verbal side-steps, listen to sworn testimony of all witnesses presented, permit his attorneys the opportunity to cross-examine those witnesses and allow each senator to make up his or her mind as to the guilt or innocence of the president.
Many authorities admit the above is the only course allowed by our precious U.S. Constitution. Is it too much for it to be the chosen way of handling this mess? Anything less is an insult to the intelligence of the majority of American people.
If a Senate trial is held, will all witnesses to the case be forced to testify? Will there still be those who choose to hide behind their "constitutional rights?" Forget the possible salacious nature of some facts presented to the court. We've read it and heard it for several weeks and just about nothing can shock us further. What we do want is a fair and complete trial on these very serious charges.
As a veteran of World War II and the Korean "Conflict," citizenship in these great United States is precious to me ... and so is the upholding of our Constitution.
John Paul, Huntington
Thanks To French Club
Editor, Times-Union:Just to let you know what an outstanding group of young people we have at the Warsaw Community High School. Saturday, October 24th, these young adults gave to different causes in the community, their time and energies.
I know because one such group, the French Club, gave me their heart. This group decorated my son's and their friends grave and then gave tribute to God by a prayer vigil. There were many such events going on that day, too numerous to make mention of.
Again, the young people of this community stood up to the task of making a difference and had a can drive for the needy. All told, the high school collected over 12,000 cans. I think they deserve so much more than they receive.
A small group of these caring students remembered their classmates' children. Their classmate was my son, who was killed this summer by a driver who had been drinking and driving. He left behind two babies, one of which now does not have a daddy or a mommy because of the action of one drinking. But this letter is not a speech on the pitfalls of drinking and driving, but on the outstanding outpouring of love and caring our youth have.
I think they all should be commended for their civic pride, their caring and thoughtfulness to make a difference in their community.

Atwood Exchange
Editor, Times-Union:A notice from GTE, dated December 11, 1998, states that "many customers" in the Atwood exchange have expressed an interest in having Extended Area Service between Atwood and Warsaw. EAS would allow Atwood customers to call Warsaw toll-free. A monthly charge would be assessed to every subscriber in the Atwood exchange whether or not they used the service.
We have infrequent occasion to call Warsaw. I believe that many subscribers in the former Etna Green exchange area would derive little or no benefit from this toll-free service and the additional monthly billing would only subsidize those Atwood subscribers adjacent to Warsaw who would be benefited.
Several years ago the Etna Green and Atwood telephone exchanges were combined into an Atwood exchange. The need for service to Warsaw differs from these two areas.
A ballot was included with the notice. I would urge every subscriber to vote to defeat this proposal and let those "interested customers" pay their own bills.
