Country Run Set to Return to Etna Green

Resident Todd Hoffer said he plans to bring back the Country Run started by Randy Miner in the early 1980s, which at its peak brought as many as 500 people to town. Miner stopped holding the run in the mid-1990s and passed away last year, Hoffer said.
He plans to hold the Randy Miner Memorial Country Run June 7 at Heritage Park. There will be a one-mile in-town loop and a four-mile run out to the gravel pit and around a country block, which Hoffer said was the original route.
Hoffer plans to present trophies and handmade clocks, a hobby Miner enjoyed, to the winners in the male and female age divisions.
He told council he already rented the park and got police permission to close the roads, but wanted to tell them about the race in order to “cover all my bases.”
“I would like to make a community event out of it,” he said, also noting his participation goal for the first year of the run’s return is 200 people. He added that while proceeds from the first year will pay for the race itself, he may start a fund or charity in the future.
Pre-registration is $20. For more information see sites.google.com/site/etracountryrun/
Also Tuesday, council held a public hearing for the fire hydrant surcharge proposed in October by Umbaugh and Associates, though there was no public comment. The surcharge on water customers would begin next year with a $6.15 monthly charge, growing the next two years to a $9.20 and $12.41 charge. All the income would go into the water utility fund.
And council approved an ordinance expanding the town’s ability to charge a $25 disconnect and reconnect fee for utilities. Clerk-Treasurer Laura Baker requested the change, noting the fee previously applied only in the case of a customer’s failure to pay utility bills but that many more customers request disconnection and reconnection for other reasons.[[In-content Ad]]
