He was born Aug. 23, 1940, in Warsaw, to Jeuith Dustin and June Esther Nelson Barrett, who preceded him in death. On July 31, 1973, in Warsaw, he married Jackalyn Ann Byers, who survives in Warsaw.
He was a lifetime resident of Claypool and Warsaw.
He retired from RR Donnelly and Sons, Warsaw, after 44 years of service as a shipping supervisor. He was a 20-year member of the Warsaw Volunteer Fire Department. Other memberships include Mason Lodge 73, Warsaw, Fort Wayne Valley Scottish Rite, Mizpah Shrine Temple Fort Wayne, Kosciusko County Shrine Club where he was a longtime volunteer for the Shrine Circus and Fish Fry’s and sponsored numerous children as patients for the Shriners Hospitals for Children. In addition, he was a lifetime member of the NRA, KOSCO Gun Club, Warsaw Rifle and Pistol Club, a member of the Breading’s Cigar Store breakfast crowd, and a former Kosciusko County precinct committeeman for the Kosciusko County GOP.
Also surviving are two sons, Steven Barrett, Wood Bridge, Va., and C. Dustin Barrett, Warsaw; a daughter, Deborah Barrett, Warsaw; two sisters, Dorothy Poe, Claypool, and Wanda Paris, Indianapolis; a brother, David Barrett, Roann; a stepmother, Inez Barrett, Winona Lake, three grandchildren, Jennifer Barrett, Cassandra Wagoner and Zachary Wagoner; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Carolyn and Linda, and one brother, Sam.
Services will be July 2 at the family residence with Tobias “Toby” Buck conducting the celebration. Private interment services will be held.
McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, 2290 Provident Court, Warsaw, is in charge of arrangements.
