The Oakwood Cemetery Board of Regents discussed the possibility of constructing a new cremation garden at Oakwood Cemetery during its meeting Thursday.

Cemetery Sexton Duane Ronk said the garden currently has 72 spots available. If another row is added, there would be room for 14 additional spots.

"As needs grow to expand the garden we need to accommodate the people we serve," Ronk said.[[In-content Ad]]He said other plans for the garden include upgrading the stone wall on the east side of the garden.

The wall would be replaced with newer stone and a terrace constructed.

"Upgrading the stone wall will allow for more burial spaces and clean up the area and make it look more pleasant," Ronk said.

He said he is getting price quotes on upgrading the stone wall in the cremation garden.

Ronk also informed board members that cemetery employees removed grave blankets and winter decorations at the cemetery last week.

He said foundation headstone work will be completed next week, weather permitting.

New bushes are being put in the Garden of Angels. There were 175 bushes ordered, and he plans for the bushes to be in the garden by Wednesday.

Ronk reported there were 19 burials in March at the cemetery, 22 lots were sold, and 14 deeds were signed during the meeting.

Board members are President Warren Tatter, Vice President Bob Sandy, Lewis Dobbins and council representative Bob Morrison.

The board will meet again May 3 at 5 p.m. at the cemetery office.
