NORTH MANCHESTER - Carl "Dude" Helton, 76, Silver Lake, died at 11:21 a.m. Jan. 3, 2011, in his residence.
He was born Aug. 10, 1934, in Prestonsburg, Ky., to John and Myrtle Hale Helton. On Sept. 12, 1981, he married Sylvia J. Charles, who survives.
He retired from Dalton Foundry, Warsaw, after 42 years of service. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Korea, and a member of Gospel Hill Pentecostal Church of God, Silver Lake. He was an active volunteer at the Silver Lake Food Pantry.
Also surviving are a son, Robert (and spouse Teresa) Goble, Silver Lake; four brothers: John Helton, North Manchester; Fred (and spouse Lourena) Helton, Warsaw; and Don (and spouse Janet) Helton and Ellis (and spouse Mary) Helton, all of Silver Lake; two sisters, Elsie Dotson, Prestonsburg, Ky., and Emma Slone, Silver Lake; a foster grandson, Brett Allen Kepler, Bourbon; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Gospel Hill Pentecostal Church of God, 303 S. Jefferson St., Silver Lake, with Pastor Frank Whitaker officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Silver Lake.
Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today at McKee Mortuary, 1401 Ind. 114W, North Manchester, and one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church.
