WINONA LAKE - Some residents of Winona Lake were under a boil advisory Sunday and Monday.

Town Coordinator Craig Allebach said residents were warned to boil their water before drinking it after an 8-inch water main broke Sunday on Oak Street near Park Avenue.

According to Allebach, the boil order was a precaution against contamination, which can occur when there is a hole in a water main.

The advisory was lifted today, after water samples taken by the water company came back clear of contamination.

Joe Loughmiller, communications manager at Indiana American Water, said the broken water main left 20 homes along Park Avenue, between 11th and 14th streets, without water for two hours, and residents in the area were notified of the boil advisory through hand-delivered flyers.

Loughmiller said the water main was repaired.
