WARSAW – Perfect conditions welcomed athletes to the IHSAA Boys Golf Sectional at Rozella Ford golf course Friday, in which six local area schools competed. The sectional was won by Columbia City, but Warsaw’s team as well as two local individuals finished the day as regional qualifiers.

The Tigers’ team score of 304 put them in second place, with the top three teams advancing. Warsaw’s standout performer all season long, Cal Hoskins, had the best individual score in the tournament with a 72. Not far behind him was Ben Brander, who shot a 74, tied for third best in the field.

Wawasee was the next closest finisher, scoring a 325 to put the Warriors in fourth. Jay Fininson will continue his season however, as his 76 put him in the top three of individuals on teams not advancing. Vaughn Dyson was second on Wawasee with an 81.

Triton, Manchester and Tippecanoe Valley would finish eighth, ninth and tenth. Cole McKinney led the way for the Trojans with an 80. The Squires’ Owen Kruschwitz will join Fininson at the regional as individuals without a team after qualifying with a 77. Valley’s Greg Miller was not far behind, barely missing the cut with a 78.

Whitko finished in twelfth place with an incomplete team. The Wildcats best scorer was Austin Kreps with an 84.

Warsaw, Fininson and Kruschwitz will compete at the regional at Swan Lake course in Plymouth Thursday morning.
