A Warsaw man was arrested late last month after battering his pregnant girlfriend, over a month after she hit him in the face with a ceramic plate, causing injuries that required hospital care.

Dexter Ross Nine, 31, of 3699 N. CR 175E, lot 182, Warsaw, was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 7:27 a.m. Aug. 22 for battery resulting in bodily injury to a pregnant woman and domestic battery with a deadly weapon. His preliminary bond was set at $11,000.

Court documents filed Tuesday list the charges against Nine as battery causing bodily injury to a pregnant woman, a level 5 felony, and battery resulting in moderate bodily injury, a level 6 felony.

On Aug. 22, Warsaw Police Department officer Jaime de la Fuente responded to a report of battery in an orange Pontiac in the parking lot at Rise ’N Roll.

De la Fuente found a woman identified as Kathryn Rhamey. She had dried blood on her lips, red marks on the side of her neck, redness on the left side of her face and it was obvious she was pregnant, according to court documents.

She said Nine punched her and grabbed her by the head, forcing her upper body into the passenger side of the vehicle. She said she was eight months pregnant.

A witness said she saw a man outside the passenger side of the Pontiac beating on a person with his closed fist at least 10 times.

Rhamey, 26, of 3104 E. Wooster Road, Pierceton, lot 55, was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail on Aug. 22 for domestic battery causing serious bodily injury to Nine.

Nine and Rhamey, his girlfriend, were arguing July 4 when she charged at him and hit him in the face with a ceramic plate.

Because of the severity of Nine’s injuries, he was taken from Kosciusko Community Hospital in Warsaw to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
