SYRACUSE – David E. “Mag” Kern, 57, of Syracuse, passed away at 11:40 a.m. Sunday, April 7, 2019, at Goshen Hospital in Goshen.

He was born on Feb. 3, 1962, in Goshen, to Jacob Earl “Jake” and Susan A. “Susie” Morganthaller Kern III.

He graduated in 1980 from Wawasee High School in Syracuse and was a lifetime Syracuse/North Webster area resident except for a few years in Cadillac, Mich.

He formerly worked at Aerolite in Syracuse, Forest River in Goshen, Ameri-Camp in Syracuse, Thor Industries, Cadillac Bowling Alley and the Syracuse Bowling Alley.

He was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Syracuse and the Boy Scouts of America, where he held various seats, including being a certified education trainer for Boy Scout leaders.

He was a former member of the Lions Club in Syracuse.

He is survived by his daughter, Alisha Kern of Syracuse; son, Christopher Kern of Syracuse; sister, Debra Kern of North Webster; brother, Daniel (Trish) Kern of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; former spouse, Mary Mabee Kern of Syracuse; five nephews; and two great-nieces and great-nephews

He was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew, Wesley Kern.

Cremation will take place at Cremation Services of Kosciusko County, Warsaw.

Visitation will be from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 20, at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse.

Private family burial will take place at a later date.
