A Silver Lake woman was arrested this week after threatening to kill herself and children in her home.

Christy Diana Warstler, 48, of 207 N. Poplar St., Silver Lake, was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday for battery committed with a deadly weapon. Her bond was set at $10,000 surety and $1,000 cash.

Court documents filed Thursday list the charges against her as intimidation with a deadly weapon, a level 5 felony; and domestic battery to a person less than 14 years of age by a person at least 18 years of age, a level 6 felony.

Claypool officer Ben Sanders spoke with a child under the age of 14, who said that on Tuesday evening Warstler used a kitchen knife with the sharp side pointed toward her and pressed it against her side and told her she needed to kill herself. The child said Warstler told all the children that they needed to kill themselves while Warstler was holding the knife and pointing it toward them. The child said she had several layers of clothing on and the knife didn’t cut her.

Another child told Sanders that Warstler threw him to the floor, got on top of him and hit him in the face.

Warstler admitted to Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office deputy Thomas Waikel, who was also called to the scene, that she had gotten physical with the children. She said she used a knife to threaten the children because that is what she needs to do to get them to listen to her.
