SILVER LAKE – A death investigation has been opened after a Saturday afternoon accident involving a golf cart and a woman in a ditch.

According to a news release from the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office, Central Dispatch received a 911 call at 4:25 p.m. Saturday regarding an unresponsive woman next to a golf cart on CR 100W, south of CR 1200S.

Law enforcement and fire department units found Cynthia Owens, 65, Silver Lake, lying in a ditch. Responders tried to resuscitate Owens, but attempts were unsuccessful and Owens was pronounced dead at the scene by the Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office.

Police determined Owens was the sole occupant of the golf cart. Preliminary investigative results indicate that the golf cart was traveling south, entered the ditch alongside the road, at which point Owens possibly fell off of the cart before it returned to the road.

The cause and manner of Owens’ death are pending the results of an autopsy.

The crash remains under investigation by the Kosciusko County Fatal Team and the Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office.
