A Silver Lake man was arrested Thursday after an underage girl accused him of raping her and giving her a sexually transmitted disease.

Trey Michael Burbank, 25, of 11144 S. County Farm Road, Silver Lake, was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 4:43 p.m. Thursday for child molesting, a level 1 felony, with a preliminary bond set for $50,250.

On June 11, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department detective Joshua Spangle was dispatched to Parkview Hospital Warsaw in regard to a possible child molestation. A KCSD deputy told him that a girl under the age of 14 claimed Burbank had been molesting her for a long time.

The girl was cleared by the hospital and taken to the KCSD, where Spangle interviewed her. She said that she used Facebook to tell her parents that Burbank had been raping her at night, according to court documents filed Thursday.

The girl said Burbank touched her inappropriately and had sex with her on multiple occasions. She said the first time it happened was sometime before Dec. 2. She said it occurred multiple times, with the last incident occurring in June.

She said the intercourse usually occurred in his bedroom at his house on County Farm Road, but also occurred in a camper, another residence and one other place, which was redacted in court records.

On June 12, the girl had a follow-up appointment with the Fort Wayne Sexual Assault Center. She tested positive for chlamydia, which is a sexually transmitted disease.

Burbank submitted to a chlamydia test at MedStat on July 14 and tested positive. He said the girl must have contracted it from using an unidentified person’s sex toys. That person’s name was redacted in court documents.

A doctor contacted by the Department of Child Services said chlamydia is a weak virus and it is highly unlikely for the girl to have contracted the STD from a sex toy because the virus does not live long outside of the body.

The department emailed this information to Spangle on June 29.
