North Manchester Provides Center For History Funding

NORTH MANCHESTER - Following a request for funding presented last month by Nancy Alspaugh on behalf of the Center for History, the North Manchester Town Council this week approved a $10,000 donation to the organization.
This donation matches the amount the town provided last year for the Center for History.
Town Manager Adam Penrod reported progress on the Chester Heights trail, which should be paved within a week or two. The trail is 8 feet wide and runs for 1.6 miles.
During visitor comments, the Council heard from Deb Chalk and Jerry Egolf, owners of several properties in town including 405 S. River Road. The property, zoned as residence single family, was cited in violation of a town ordinance for use as an automobile wrecking, junk and salvage yard.
Chalk said that following the town's court order, which was filed in December 2020 with the Wabash County Circuit Court, she and Egolf "got rid of everything" in their yard but claims they are continually being bullied in an "overreach of power."
Council members' conflict-of-interest attestations will be uploaded to Gateway ahead of the town's 2023 budget schedule.
Clerk-Treasurer Carrie Mugford reported a town docket of $779,859.27 and a utilities docket of $220,765.43.
The Council will next meet at 7 p.m. Sept. 7.
