Three people suffered minor injuries in a two-vehicle accident at 1:55 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of U.S. 30 and Old 30 in Warsaw.
Tracey L. Sleighter, 55, East Ponderosa Drive, North Webster, was the driver of a black 2019 Ford Fusion. She advised Warsaw Police Department that her vehicle was on East Old 30 near the intersection of U.S. 30. Sleighter was trying to decide if she wanted to continue south through the intersection or turn, according to a Warsaw Police Department accident report. Sleighter was focused on this decision and did not notice the traffic control signal for her lane of travel was red. She entered into the intersection and the driver side of the Fusion was hit by a black 2016 Toyota Corolla, driven by Stephen Tse, 29, Chicago.
Sleighter signed off medically at the scene. Her license status was “suspended-infraction” and she was issued a citation for driving while suspended-infraction. Her registration status was listed as suspended as well, the report states.
The Fusion sustained heavy driver-side damage and was towed from the scene due to disabling damage.
Tse advised the Corolla was traveling west on U.S. 30 near the intersection of East Old 30. He stated the westbound traffic control signal was green and, as the Corolla was entering the intersection, the Fusion pulled in front of his vehicle. Tse stated he tried to make an evasive maneuver, but there was no time. The front center of the Corolla hit the driver side of the Fusion.
Tse complained of pain to his left arm at the scene. At Lutheran Kosciusko Hospital, Tse complained of additional pain throughout his body.
Emily A. Allison, 25, Rockford, Ill., was seated in the backseat of the Corolla. She complained of pain to her stomach and nausea on scene. At LKH, Allison complained of additional pain to her shin, upper back and mild chest pain.
Danielle Kramer, 28, Velvedeer, Ill., was seated in the front passenger seat of the Corolla. She complained of left arm, left leg and stomach pain.
Tse, Allison and Kramer were all taken together by Lutheran Medic to LKH for further medical evaluation.
The Corolla sustained heavy front-end damage and was towed from the scene due to disabling damage.
Witness one and two were on East Old 30 near Kosciusko Drive. Both advised the light for traffic on East Old 30 was red and stated the Corolla was traveling west on U.S. 30 when the Fusion disregarded the traffic control device and entered the intersection. Both witnesses said the Corolla did not have time to make an evasive maneuver and the front of the Corolla hit the driver side of the Fusion, the accident report states.
Damage was estimated at $10,000 to $25,000, according to the WPD crash report.
