Funeral services were announced Friday for two of the four people killed in Wednesday’s two-vehicle crash on Ind. 19, south of Ind. 119.
Visitation for U.S. District 2 Congresswoman Jackie Walorski, 58, Elkhart, will be noon to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10 at Granger Community Church, 630 E. University Drive, Granger. Her funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 11, also at the church, according to the Palmer Funeral Homes website.
Walorski was born and raised in South Bend. She served on the House Ways and Means Committee and as the ranking member of the Subcommittee on Worker and Family Support. She was first elected to Congress in 2012. Before serving in Congress, she served three terms in the Indiana Statehouse. She and her husband, Dean, previously spent four years as missionaries in Romania.
Visitation for Edith Jo Schmucker, 56, Nappanee, will be 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13 at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, according to the funeral home’s website.
A longtime Nappanee resident, Schmucker was a 1985 Warsaw Community High School graduate and worked at Miller’s Merry Manor in Wakarusa. She was the mother of three sons.
On Wednesday, Schmucker was driving south on Ind. 19 in a maroon Buick LeSabre, and Zachery Potts, 27, Mishawaka, was driving north in a silver Toyota RAV4, south of Ind. 119, when, for reasons not yet released as of Friday, the two vehicles collided.
In Potts’ vehicle were Walorski and Emma Thomson, 28, of Washington, D.C.
Potts and Thomson also were killed in the fatal crash but their funeral services have not been announced.
Potts was a member of Walorski’s staff, as well as the Republican Party 2nd District chairman and St. Joe County Republican chairman. Thomson was Walorski’s communication director.
Walorski, Potts and Thomson had spent most of the morning in the Warsaw and Claypool area on Wednesday, prior to the crash.
