A new Etna Township trustee will have to be chosen by the township precinct committeeman and the Kosciusko County Republican Central Committee chair.

After almost 16 years, Etna Township Trustee Gary Sponseller is resigning, effective July 20, according to GOP Chair Mike Ragan. Sponseller and his wife plan to move out of the township.

Ragan said, “We would like to thank Gary Sponseller for his many years of service to the citizens of Etna Township, and we wish him well in his future endeavors.”

Sponseller was re-elected in November and his current term began Jan. 1.

Since fewer than two persons are eligible to participate in a precinct committeemen caucus to fill the vacancy, Ragan will consult with Etna Township Republican Precinct Committeeman Steve Sechrist before announcing the appointment.

The Etna Township Trustee vacancy will be filled and announced at 2 p.m. July 11 at the Kosciusko County Clerk’s Office, 121 N. Lake St., Warsaw.

Eligible applicants to replace Sponseller must be a resident of Etna Township, Kosciusko County; a Republican in good standing and must not have a felony in their history.

Declarations of candidacy, and statements of economic interests, are available at county clerk’s office and must be notarized and filed with Ragan no later than 72 hours prior to the appointment (2 p.m. July 8).

Ragan’s contact information is 574-265-1430 and his email is mragan@sprintmail.com.
