PIERCETON – A Syracuse man was killed early this morning in a one-car accident on U.S. 30.

It was the third fatal traffic accident this week in Kosciusko County.

Christopher J. Pezan, 23, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office, according to a news release from the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department.

County officials are investigating the crash that occurred on U.S. 30 at CR 250S near Pierceton. KCSD deputies and emergency personnel responded to the scene at approximately 1:58 a.m.





The incident involved a westbound blue Chevrolet Malibu that exited U.S. 30 when the driver lost control of the vehicle. Once off the road, the Chevrolet traveled along a ditch and rolled multiple times.

Pezan was ejected from the vehicle.

The Kosciusko County Fatal Team was assisted at the scene by members of the Lutheran EMS, Pierceton Fire Department, Pierceton Police Department and KCSD.

The first fatal traffic accident that occurred within the past week was Saturday on Ind. 13 near CR 200N, Pierceton, before 1:30 p.m. James R. Ernsberger, 52, Bremen, suffered multiple injuries when he laid down the 2005 Harley Davidson he was riding without making contact with the other vehicles in the motorcycle ride. He was thrown from the motorcycle.

The other fatal this week occurred before 8 p.m. Tuesday when bicyclist Ronald Lee Strieby, 70, Syracuse, was hit by a vehicle that fled the scene on CR 800N at CR 650E, near North Webster.

Witnesses at the scene identified a light-colored late model full-size truck and a second motor vehicle in the area of the crash.
