Around 5 p.m. Monday, a white Ford Fusion with Michigan plates crashed into the living room of 324 S. High St. at Winona Avenue in Warsaw.

No one was injured, according to Warsaw Police Department Public Information Officer Det. Brad Kellar. Kellar said the driver, who wasn't immediately identified, was from Michigan and lost control of his vehicle due to excessive speed. Kellar said the investigation is ongoing.

A neighbor across the street, Chase Edington, said he and his housemates witnessed the entire thing and guessed the driver was traveling around 85 to 90 miles per hour before the crash.

"Then we heard his engine kick in when he floored it, and then he hit our sidewalk, then went through the house," Edington said.

The neighbors say the driver at first tried to run, but they told him "there's 15 guys right here, you're not going anywhere."

Police have not said if anyone was inside the home at the time of the crash, but neighbors said an elderly couple live there and that the woman was in the front room where the crash occurred and the man was in the basement. Their cats are apparently missing, Edington said.

According to county records, the home is owned by Robert and Sally Lamirand.

Warsaw Police Department was assisted at the scene by Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory, the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Office and Lutheran EMS.
