WINONA LAKE — The Grace College Wind Ensemble will perform its spring concert, “Tales From The Sea: Wind, Waves and Whales,” on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Warsaw Community High School Performing Arts Center.

The concert is free and open to the public. Doors open at 7 p.m.  

The program will feature the music of Onsby Rose, a former Marine, resident of Elkhart County and train conductor-turned-symphony conductor.

Other selections include the music of Steve Reineke, the conductor of the National Symphony Orchestra and Francis McBeth’s “Of Sailors And Whales,” a musical portrayal of Herman Melville’s novel “Moby Dick.”

“I am most excited about having the multi-talented Mike Yocum joining us on this program,” said Eric Criss, director of the ensemble. “Grace College and Wagon Wheel’s hometown favorite will provide narration as the voice of Ishmael from Moby Dick in ‘Of Sailors and Whales.’”

The Grace College Wind Ensemble is comprised of approximately 70 students, community musicians and professionals. The band rehearses once per week to bring the audience a professional-level performance.

“Come to the concert, and enjoy hearing musicians from every generation,” Criss said. “We work together to create music that the whole community can enjoy.”
