GOSHEN – Sharen A. Staup, 76, died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2020, at Elkhart Hospital.
She was born Sept. 4, 1944, in Adrian, Mich., to Earl and Verna McCarty Maierle. On July 11, 1964, she married John K. Staup. He died Sept. 25, 2010.
Survivors include two daughters: Dawn (Scott Rizek) Weaver, Lakeville; and Heather Baumgart, Sellersburg; two grandchildren:?Cory and Taylor Baumgart; four siblings: Loren (Donna) Maierle, Albion; Ray (Liz) Maierle, Goshen; Caren (Lynn) Chappell, Harrison, Mich.; and Sue Romans, Goshen; a sister-in-law, Betty Fike, Mishawaka; and a brother-in-law, Arthur Smith, Oregon.
Sharen was preceded in death by sisters-in-law, Raylee Smith and Eleanor Colvin.
She graduated from Leesburg High School in 1962 and Grace College in 1966. She was a special education teacher for the Greater Clark Community Schools for more than 20 years. A very musical person, Mrs. Staup played the organ and the piano and taught music and voice.
She and her husband, John, started Maranatha Baptist Church in Jeffersonville, where she was very active. She served as organist, pianist, choir director and helped with the children’s programs and vacation Bible schools.
Visitation will be Saturday, Jan. 16 from 11 a.m. until the 1 p.m. funeral service at Calvary Hill Baptist Church, 27664 CR 24, Elkhart. The Rev. Timothy Wesco will officiate.
